The Bookworm’s Tag

Editor’s Note: Hey there! I wrote this post in advance and scheduled it to go out today, so this isn’t my 50 subscriber celebratory post; hopefully sometime next week I’ll be putting it up. If you haven’t had a chance to vote, you can find the link Here. I’ll be closing the form on Sunday. Thanks to everyone who’s sent feedback over the past week!

Happy June, everyone! How is your the start to your summer? Any big plans? I have so many ideas and have yet to write it all down (and organize it…yeah, I’m behind Lol.)

First, I want to give a big thank you to Pearl who nominated me for this fun tag! I can’t wait to get started, so here are the rules!

  1. Thank and link the blogger who nominated you.
  2. Include the tag graphic in your post
  3. Answer the ten questions the blogger asked
  4. Nominate between five and ten bloggers
  5. Ask your nominees ten book-related questions!
  6. Don’t feel bound to these rules
  7. (Most importantly) Have fun!
  • Has a book ever changed your life?

Yes, I can think of a few that have definitely changed or influenced me. First, the Bible, where I learned about God and forgiveness. Second, books by C.S Lewis, Lloyd Alexander, Millie Howard, Elizabeth George Speare, and Dawn L. Watkins which fueled my love for storytelling and inspired me to write amazing stories like them.

  • What’s your favorite genre to read?

I love middle grade and pretty much any genre it comes in (except horror. I could never stomach creepy, scary stories; hence I blocked The Telltale Heart from my mind after highschool literature class *cough cough*). But MG fantasy, contemporary, historical, etc. have been a lot of fun to explore.

  • What’s the first book you remember reading?

*blanks* Lol. I remember my parents reading The Big Green Pocketbook and Blue Kangaroo out loud to me, but on my own? The only one I can think of right now is the Runaway Princess by Millie Howard (although I know there were others…).

  • What’s your least favorite book?

I didn’t really like The Princess and the Goblin by George MacDonald. Our mom read it aloud to us when we were kids, but I just remember it being weird, and not very exciting (actually, I was waiting for the goblins to capture the princess so we could have an epic escape/rescue, but it never happened.) I tried to reread it again when I was older, but I never got into it.

  • Are there any books that are really popular but you dislike?

…Oh dear, now I’ll really get in trouble XD. Uh, let’s see. I really don’t like Wonder by R.J Palacio *ducks from flying tomatoes*

Haha. *clears throat* Let me explain; I feel like the author could have done more showing in the book, especially with the character’s growth. To me, that would have made the book even more moving and impactful. Also, some of the POVs in the book seemed to trail off and never tied back into the climax (I know what the author was trying to do, but it just fizzled out for me.) In the end, it felt more like a series of interviews, if I’m making sense? There’s probably more, but I’ll leave it at that *ducks from more flying tomatoes*.

  • Are there any books that are considered terrible but are your secret pleasure?

I don’t think so. Usually, if it’s considered terrible (I’m assuming you mean poorly written, bad characterization, etc) I pretty much agree…

  • What was the last book you read?

I scheduled this post in advance, so at the time I’m writing this, it’s Hitty: Her First Hundred Years by Rachel Field.

  • Do you have an all-time favorite book character?

No, I don’t. *gasp!* Why, you ask? Because it’s so hard to pick just one! Should I do Lucy Pevensie or Reepicheep? Maybe the Professor from A Dreadful Fairy Tale? No, no, I can’t forget Jaron and Imogen from the Ascendance series…but then I really love Halt and Will from Ranger’s Apprentice… and Alys too…(see my dilemma? *hugs characters tightly*).

  • How do you pick books to read?

I usually read the synopsis and add it to a list to check into further. Sometimes I’ll read reviews to get a better idea of what the book is like. Or, if it’s an author I already know and love, and if the synopsis sounds good, I’ll most likely read it. I suppose that just proves that the blurb/synopsis really is an important selling point of your book! *realizes I should go work on my own*  Oops. You didn’t hear that from me *winks*

  • How many books do you read a month?

Uh…I’d say roughly one to two books a month (I’m a slow reader *haha*.)

Alrighty! *claps hands together and scans the room*. I’m going to nominate:

Sawyer

Alicia

Allie

Lily May

Vanessa

Kristina

Hannah

Saraina

Grace

Tasha

And You! (Phew! I made it to over ten nominations! Lol.)

Here are my questions for you guys: (by the way, if you’ve already been nominated for this, or have too many tags already, feel free to bypass!)

What’s one book that you wished you would’ve written instead? (i.e The False Prince, Chronicles of Narnia, Hunger Games, Charlotte’s Web, etc.)

What type of book character would you be? (i.e best friend, comedic side character, wise mentor, etc.)

Do you prefer humorous stories, more serious stories, or both?

What’s one book that you’d like to change the ending to?

Which author is your favorite and why? (Ooo, see what I did there?)

Where is your favorite place to read a book?

What genre of book would best describe your personality? (i.e drama, comedy, adventure, etc.)

What’s your favorite book cover?

Have you ever been carsick while reading a book during a drive?

What’s one fiction book that’d you’d give to a friend with no hesitation?

Thanks so much for reading! So, who’s your favorite author, or even your least favorite? What book do you remember first reading on your own? Let’s chat in the comments!

  1. Happy June. I’m in the southern hemisphere so this is the start of our winter – we’re still getting to the cold part of winter. Right now we’re enjoying the little bits of warmth left🌄
The Bible is probably the only book which has changed my life🙌.

  2. To me, two books a month is just right (assuming they’re around 500 pages), though I may read more than that if I go through a series. And your questions are interesting enough that I may sneak in and take part as well 🙂

    1. Cool! I don’t think I’ve read a book with 500 pages (except maybe The Lord of The Rings, but nothing else since then).
What is one recent book that you’ve enjoyed, if I may ask?
Ah, thanks! Feel free to steal this tag! I’d love to see your answers 🙂

      1. Of course you can – if you count that as “recent”, I’ve read the first four books of R. K. Lander’s The Silvan series at the end of 2021, and liked that a lot, despite the jarring PoV jumps. And at the beginning of this year, S. Usher Evans’ Princess Vigilante series.
I’m preparing my answers, hopefully throughout this week.

  3. Oof, I don’t like the horror genre either, though I guess I can stomach it… lol! Oh YES I love your favorite characters (at least those I know 😉 )!!! Lucy, Sage, Imogen, Reepicheep… so awesome. And I totally get that about not having an all-time favorite book. I’m kinda shocked I have one myself – The Green Ember series, but somehow, I do. *laughs*

Thank you for tagging me!! 😀 ❤

      1. Oooh man, the best Green Ember book? I can’t choose!!! I’d have to say Ember Falls and Ember’s End were my favorites, but I absolutely loved all of them! 😀

  4. AWW Lily you nominated meeee ❤ *hugs* This will be so fun!
Also, we have very similar opinions on this topic, mwahaha. I have the same feelings about The Princess and the Goblin and Wonder, not to mention horror stories… *crawls into small safe corner with Lily*
Thanks for this fun post, friend!
